Some of you might be familiar with my Gatsby studio range, so you can imagine my excitement when being invited to join a gorgeous bunch of Yorkshire based suppliers to create a Gatsby inspired styled shoot at the one and only Betty’s Tearooms. Not only did LoveLi create stunning foiled stationery for the day, but we also styled the shoot, including the draw dropping (even if we do say so ourselves) tablescape.

When Betty’s Tea Room founder Frederick Belmont, travelled on the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary he was so enthralled by the splendour of the ship that he commissioned the Queen Mary’s designers and craftsmen to turn a dilapidated furniture store into his most sophisticated branch yet – an elegant café in the land-locked location of St Helen’s Square,York.

With this as the backdrop and a decadent claret, gold and powder pink colour palette this was no ordinary gatsby inspired shoot. This highly curated set of suppliers brought together their individual talents in one seamless, glamorous, decadent scene (photos All You Need is Love Photography).

The look and feel for the whole shoot was carefully designed to be a change from the usual gatsby shoots and weddings we’ve all seen time and time again. The Bettys Bride shoot styling created by LoveLi, was developed to reflect the beautiful historic venue, and portray the glamour of yesteryear but remain current and contemporary. The dramatic tablescape laid on a deep claret linen featured delicate powder pink chargers framed by traditional tableware and complimented with gold cutlery & napkins. A tall globe floral arrangement (Claire Slater Flowers) of blousy peonies, trailing amaranthus created drama and a real focus for this opulent setting.

The real stars of the show were the exquisite couture dresses and accessories (Blossom & Belle and Elisoberry). The ‘Betty’ dress is a stunning bias cut halter neck buttermilk silk crepe gown with silk tulle falling from under the bust. Inspired by the Hollywood icon Betty Davis, its beautiful slim line silhouette coupled with huge puddle train means this dress is every inch the perfect dress for a glamorous location. Unique headpieces and jewellery were designed to compliment each bridal look. Swarovski crystal pearls and seed beads were used alongside feathers to create elegant flower combs and head pieces to help bring the looks alive.

The bridal hair and make up looks were carefully crafted (Alison Martin MUA) to remain current, yet have a nod to the glamour of the Gatsby era. Vivid smokey eyes and stand out lip colour ensured the brides looked flawless.

The details of the shoot were researched to the nth degree, with a vintage gramophone being sourced (York Wedding Hire Co) and even bespoke handkerchiefs (Extra Special Touch) to match the stationery elements of the whole scheme. Fabulous gold tea light holders and scented tea lights (Savon Claire) provided the perfect mood for the shoot (even if scent can’t be captured). And no party is complete without cake (Where The Ribbon Ends). Two beautiful 3-tiered designs were created to compliment the wedding stationery range. Stunning gold leaf detailing and delicate sugar work made these pieces hold their own set amongst the glamorous setting. Table stationery and an invite range featured a standout Art Deco pattern, complete with luxe gold foiling that really exuded decadence.

The day was full of fun and laughter too, which is always a bonus and we hope you agree that a beautiful set of images were produced, perfect for inspiring style savvy couples everywhere.
